The Stevens Point Area Senior High boys cross country team won its fourth straight WIAA Division 1 state championship on Saturday, Nov. 1 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

SPASH tallied 69 points to outpace runner-up Homestead which had 113 points. Senior Cooper Erickson led the Panthers by finishing sixth. Sophomore Garrett Strong was ninth, freshman Fisher Carroll 10th, junior John Jazdzewski 16th, and senior Bennett Story 26th. Also running at state for the Panthers were junior Alex Dziak (32nd) and senior Donald Voetberg (58th).

The state title was the 15th in program history for the Panthers, the most by any school in Wisconsin since 1936. SPASH’s state championships have all been won since 1980.

SPASH became the first school since South Milwaukee in 1941 to win four consecutive WIAA boys Division 1 state cross country championships. 

The Panthers were coached by Donn Behnke and Kevin Hopp.
